Shopping for the Boys

The day after court we visited Evan in the morning and Alla helped us measure him so we could go and buy the clothes he will need once we take him out of the orphanage. Since Alla was here for a few days with us in Cherkasy, she took us to a few different children’s clothing stores and we bought Steven and Evan shoes, coats, underwear, shirts, sweaters, socks etc.

Even with measurements it was hard to guess on sizes. It looks to me that Evan is a size 24 months and Steven is in a size 5 or 6. A few of the clothes we purchased had American sizing on them. We purchased a couple outfits, pajamas etc. for both Steven and Evan. It was a long day going in and out of stores, eating out and then visiting Steven and Evan in between.

After visiting Steven in the late afternoon, we took Alla and Nikolai (our taxi driver) out to dinner at a Ukrainian Restaurant where Nikolai and his wife celebrated on their wedding day. It was very traditional and had a beautiful mural painting of a scene from Ukrainian countryside.

Here is the photo of the Ukrainian countryside mural.

The next day, Friday, we took the clothes into the orphanages to try the clothes on Evan and Steven. It was so precious to see their reaction to the clothes. When Evan came out of his groupa room he gets so excited and greets us all and then runs over to the bag that we bring toys with us to play. We told him, “No, no” and then called him over to us to try on the clothes. His eyes got real wide and cautiously came over to me, not realizing what was going on. I showed him the shirt with a car “Machina” on it and motioned for him to put his hands up in the air to change his shirt to the one with the car on it. I thought it would be more difficult to communicate with him to get him to cooperate to change his clothes without Alla in the room, but we are starting to understand each other more and more each day. I think it was clear that I wanted him to change his shirt anyway. Once he saw the car on the shirt he was very willing to cooperate. After we put the first outfit on him, I motioned for him to take them off so I can try on the next shirt and pants, he didn’t want to part with them that quickly therefore he ran to the other side of the room. He was so cute the way he was so excited and pleased with his new clothes. He hugged me a few times as he had a huge smile on his face when I finally got him to try some of the other clothes on. Evan would just lean toward me with his arms in the air falling into my arms and smiling from ear to ear. Then he was so giddy he then arched his back as he was in my arms and was giggling. It was so adorable.

Later that day we went Steven’s orphanage to try on the clothes for him. He was a little shy to try on the clothes, but was cooperative. He was quietly smiling and pleased to see that these clothes were for him. Alla asked him if he liked them and he just smiled at her. How cute they both are. We are so blessed to have 3 wonderful boys.
